| Physical Description: | This quilt has 28 pieced blocks which alternate with 28 white blocks in a straight set. The pieced blocks are made of 2 1/2" squares, with surrounding triangles. Fabrics include prints of double pink and madder brown. Each pieced block has a white center square inscribed with a person's name and date of birth. The white blocks are quilted with foliate motifs. There is no border. The backing is white. |
| Description: | Julia Stevens Crosby (1798-1879) of East Hardwick, Vermont made quilts for some or all of her five surviving children, inscribing each with her child's name and birth date, as well as those of ancestors. Three nearly identical Crosby quilts have been located. Julia made this one for her son, John Quincy Adams Crosby, who had moved to Iowa by 1860.
