Physical Description: | This quilt (A) is made of twenty square-shaped quilt blocks. Each block is slightly different from the others. The blocks are made of irregularly shaped pieces cut from various fabric types, including synthetics, velvets, and suit fabrics. The quilt is backed with a thin cotton print fabric. There are no borders. Three of the edges are finished with a knife edge finish, but the fourth edge is unfinished. The seams are covered with cotton embroidery floss in decorative stitches. There are two quilt squares accompanying this piece (B-C) |
Description: | The simple 4 x 5 grid of this quilt is enlivened by patches of maroon and orange, with splashes of red and white. Pieces like this were popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. |
