Physical Description: | This Crazy/family album quilt of velvet, satin and silk, is heavily embroidered in cotton and chenille with family names, initials, and years. Several patches are painted with floral designs. There is a border of dark green. The quilt is backed with dark green satin. |
Description: | Lydia Lucinda Godfrey McFarlane was born in Michigan in 1842 and came west with her husband by covered wagon to the Deep Creek area, where they grew wheat. After she was widowed in 1898, Lydia moved to Spokane, where she made this quilt for her daughter, Nellie, in 1908. Embellished with paint and embroidery, this quilt preserves the names of many friends and family members. |
