Physical Description: | Eighty blocks, each consisting of rectangles surrounding a red square center, make up this quilt. The rectangles are arranged by light and dark value so that the quilt appears to have a central dark diamond, which is surrounded by concentric diamond-shaped rings. The fabrics are multi-colored, although green and cream dominate. It is bordered on three sides with a dark printed fabric. Two of the borders are 11" wide, and the third is 4 3/4" wide. It is tied from the back with a twisted cord. |
Description: | The light and dark fabrics of this Log Cabin quilt were carefully arranged in a frequently-chosen setting known as "Barn Raising." Log Cabin quilts were especially popular during the last quarter of the nineteenth century, when this quilt was likely made. |
