Physical Description: | Ceramic tile with Christmas greeting depicting a winter scene of a cottage next to a road with trees surrounding the house and the following text as part of the composition: "Let me live in a house by the side of the road where the race of men go by. The men who are good and the men who are bad. As good and as bad as I. I would not sit in the scorner's seat or hurt the cynic's ban: Let me live in a house by the side of the road And be a friend of man." Foss |
Description: | A. B. Fosseen, president and general manager of Washington Brick, Lime and Sewer Pipe Company, maintained an annual tradition of creating a custom tile greeting "card" during the Christmas season that he apparently gave out to family and friends. Though the tile is not signed by an artist, it is thought that Leno Prestini was the designer of these tiles. Prestini was a local artist who worked as a designer at the Washington Brick, Lime and Sewer Pipe Clayton plant. |
