Title: | Catherine Gwin's Crazy Quilt |
Object Type: | Quilt |
Participants: | |
Physical Description: | Sixteen blocks made of irregularly shaped pieces of a variety of dress and suiting fabrics make up this quilt. It is embellished with embroidery, including lots of feather stitches. It was edged by bringing the backing fabric to the front, and this is visible around all four edges. |
Description: | The irregular shapes and varied lines of this quilt suggest a map - appropriate for this well-traveled piece. Family history states that Catherine Bush Gwin used fancy stitching to make these quilt blocks in Iowa around 1900. Over 60 years later in Spokane, a Mrs. Buell added backing and filling and completed the quilt for the family. |
