Physical Description: | Large, dark, hand-carved table of Honduras mahogany. Rests on four plain, smooth columns that rest on two beams with ornate ends which run widthwise. There are carved heads along the length of the table under the table top, in line with the columns as well as drawers with brass, oval hardware. |
Description: | In 1898 the Campbells contracted Cleveland interior decorator William Otis to specify furnishings for their new Spokane home. Otis selected high-quality wallpapers, floor coverings, window treatments, and major furnishings typical of those found in the homes of wealthy late 19th century families. The revival-style furniture was likely ordered from a Midwest manufacturer. The Campbell's library featured a gothic revival style including such heavily carved furniture as this center table, an important feature of turn-of-the-century parlors and libraries. |
