Physical Description: Black velvet crown with large cluster of black iridescent feathers on right rear portion held on by a black button. Tiny red, white and green pleated ribbon with unidentified gold insignia (curved horn, crossed rifles, flame) on hat front. Heavy material impregnated with black paint for brim. Black band of same around base of crown. Hat is lined with green fabric with two drawstrings.
Description: Like many young well-to-do girls of her time, Helen Campbell (1892-1967) enjoyed collecting dolls and accessories representing different countries. Popular fascination with world exploration grew through the 19th century. Wealthy families took Grand Tours of Europe, Asia and the Middle East, including the Campbell's visits to Egypt and Europe in 1904 and 1909-1910.
