Description: Benewah Creamery's butter won first prize at the 1923 Spokane Fair, and the company advertised the honor with this hand-lettered sign. The thriving creamery soon needed more retail outlets and constructed two distinctive, milk bottle-shaped buildings in 1935. Owner Paul Newport explained that the whimsical styles were "designed to build better men and women by making dairy products attractive to boys and girls." In 1950, a Benewah sales clerk posed for a photo at the milk bottle store on South Cedar Street - again advertising Benewah Butter.
