Physical Description: | The background and sashing of this quilt are made from a blue and brown print. The backing is white. Each of the forty-one blocks is made up of one or two colored print fabrics with a white background. The center of each block contains a signature in ink. |
Description: | Many names on this quilt have been traced to Chenango County, New York State, but the recipient and reason for making this quilt are unknown. Inscribed quilts like this were very popular during the mid-nineteenth century. This quilt was apparently brought to Spokane by either Thomas or Charlotte Brown Griffith who established the Glen Tana Farms north of Spokane in the 1890s. |
