Description: | Louis and Verus Davenport and their son Lewis all had an eye for acquiring beautiful decorative arts. In 1987 Lewis bequeathed over 125 family pieces to this museum, along with funds to preserve them and to create expanded museum galleries. Louis Davenport saw and purchased this enameled, cast iron mantel clock at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition. Its designer, Albin Müller, was a member of Germany's Darmstadt Artists' Colony. Davenport's clock graced the mantel of the family's Art Nouveau apartment above Davenport's Restaurant. |
