Description: Gertrude McKernan earned victory and service medals as an American Red Cross Nurse in France during World War I. Trained at St. Luke's Nurses School, she later worked nearly 40 years for the Spokane Health Department. This Revolver belonged to Inza Gertrude McKernan. It is a .38 caliber break top style revolver made by Iver Johnson's Arms and Cycle Works under the brand name U. S. Revolver Company. Despite the "US" branding on the grips, these revolvers were not issued by the U. S. Army to soldiers or nurses. Gertrude's father, William McKernan, was a special police officer with the Spokane Police Department and he may have gifted this revolver to his daughter.
